To put that in context, Lord of the Rings was able to have some of us commit the land of Middle Earth to memory to the point that we could be professional cartographers. Fantasy settings have this innate ability to have fans invest in their lore and overworld, to the point that they commit what would otherwise be pure gobbledegook to memory.
